Get Hot!
This week we have been super excited to host Irony Fireside with their innovative mobile sauna! This state-of-the-art horsebox conversion has warmed many a chilly Lido swimmer so far since Friday, and after a successful trial, we hope to make it a more permanent feature...
The benefits of saunas are well-documented: muscle recovery; improved circulation; enhanced sleep quality; detoxification (not that our Lido uses any chemical nasties, of course), and general relaxation. As part of the growing trend for holistic health and community wellness, demand for outdoor saunas has risen drastically over the past year or two, and it's a bandwagon (or horsebox) we're more than happy to jump on - watch this space!

Diane's Final Fundraiser
With great sadness and lots of love in our hearts, we share the news that everyone's friend at the Lido, Diane, left us on Mothers' Day. She died peacefully and with family by her side.
On March 27th, we held another cake sale, which was originally intended to be a Motor Neurone Disease charity fundraiser... however, the decision was made to split the proceeds between this and MacMillan (specifically, the Nightingale Unit in Derby, which took care of Diane). The community went above and beyond - so much so, that we smashed our goal and were incredibly proud to raise over one thousand pounds for EACH charity.
The day was bittersweet; we were able to remember Diane and honour her memory in a way that reflected the kindness and warmth she brought to us all, at her happy place, the Lido.

Diane's Macmillan Coffee Morning
Huge thank you to everyone at New Bath Hotel Lido in Matlock who supported Diane's poolside Macmillan coffee morning!
The event was hosted by her daughter's Megan and Lily, with Diane video-calling from her hospital bed where she was recovering from a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with chronic blood cancer.
They raised an incredible £1,963 for people living with cancer!
Diane said: "I had a great time, joining in the fun despite not being able to be there in person. I video called in, on and off throughout the day and was able to chat to swimmers and lifeguards and see the generous donations of delicious looking cakes. So much love and support at the lido. To top it all, Megan & Lily brought cake samples to me at evening visiting at the hospital. Yummy!"
Thank you so much for all your support!

AWARD-WINNING TEAM: The New Bath Lido Pool team
One of Derbyshire’s leading charities has come together with High Peaks Mayor, Cllr Ollie Cross, to give out a Derbyshire County Community Hero Award.
The New Bath Lido Pool team based in Matlock, has been awarded a prestigious Community Hero Award from River Network Charity, one of Derbyshire’s leading charities. CEO Terry Eckersley said: “As well as offering a most prestigious thermal swimming experience, the team not only offers swimming instruction but much-needed holistic development and pastoral support. Skip and the team have become exceptional partners in delivering community support and events, building a supportive and caring community.”
Skip, the team leader who has pioneered getting the pools reopening and building up an amazing team, said: “This now makes us a multi-award winning facility and gives praise to the whole staff. It’s the people and team that make the pool and community such a special place.”

New Bath Inspired Towel by Brian George
Sometime between Lockdowns, a renowned local artist from Alfreton who has always been associated with The Royal Society of British Artists, came by New Bath Lido on a kind of trip down memory lane.
Brian and his wife, Joan told stories of venturing out from Alfreton into Derbyshire back in the sixties when they would regularly hang out at the Hotel and by the pool.
We got on famously and I was wearing my memento, paint splattered, Birkenstocks from painting the pool twice which caused amusement whilst we talked about Jackson Pollack and David Hockney.....naturally when Brian asked permission to take a few snaps for a Pool and Hotel inspired painting, I was quick to ask in return for first refusal of the finished Artwork!
Brian's work is painstakingly layered using Oils, taking months to complete one Artwork so my wait for the end result wasn't quick. Brian and his Wife eventually emerged clutching a bubble wrapped finished piece. It was an instant decision for me to grab it from him and claim ownership! I loved it and it hangs proud in my new house.
